Bhimbetka
Surrounded by the northern fringe of the Vindhyan ranges, Bhimbetka lies 46 km South of Bhopal. In this rocky terrain of dense forest and craggy cliffs, over 600 rock shelters belonging to the Neolithic age were recently discovered. Here, in vivid panoramic detail, paintings in over 500 caves depict the life of the pre-historic cave-dwellers making the Bhimbetka group an archaeological treasure, an invaluable chronicle in the history of man.
Introduction
About 45 kilometers from Bhopal, Bhimbetka is located on the south of Vindhya Range. It is believed that in Bhimbetka the initial indication of human life in India were found. There are abundant paintings from the Stone Age which date back over 9000 years. It is in Bhimbetka that petroglyphs were found.
The Bhimbetka region is covered by thick forests and dense vegetation. The varied flora and fauna of this unexplored region of Madhya Pradesh are varied and exclusive.

Bhimbetka is only 45 kilometers from Bhopal. Bhopal is accessible from all parts of the country by rail, road and air. The nearest airport is Bhopal where many airlines fly regularly and offer cheap tickets. Trains and buses also connect Bhopal to Bhimbetka.
