Chitrakoot
One of the most significant centres of Hindu faith and culture, Chitrakoot is known for its scenic beauty and its holiness. Chitrakoot is indeed a gift of nature and the gods. Located in the satna District and some part in a Banda district of modern Uttar Pradesh (U.P), on the banks of river Mandikini, Chitrakoot is a tranquil retreat on the northern spur of the Vindhyas. Just 6 km Karvi and 90 km of satna district on the road, Chitrakoot Dham is one of the most ancient holy pilgrim places of India. Mythology has it that it was the abode of Lord Rama, his wife Sita and brother Lakshman for eleven years of their fourteen years of exile. This is also the place, where they came in contact with sagacious Atri and sati Anasuya. This abode of the gods is endorsed to have seen the incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh. Chitrakoot, sacred with the touch of Lord's feet, was where Goswami Tulsidas, the creator of the ambitious "Shri Ramcharitmanas" spent many years of his life. Dotted with innumerable temples and shrines, nature's splendor here is wrapped in peace and tranquility, permeated only by singing birds and gushing streams.
Chitrakoot was considering being a very sacred place in the Tretayuga, or the third epoch of the Hindu cosmogony. It is said that Rama and Sita visited Chitrakoot through their 14-year long exile. Lord Rama, an incarnation of Vishnu is the hero of the great Indian epic Ramayana, written by Sage Valmiki.
